Ron Patterson dies 80, co-founder of the Renaissance Faire craft - Los Angeles Times

He and his wife started the show in 1963, attracting actors improvising Elizabethan era costumes and alignment as well as they could. Exposure to historical accuracy improved over the years.

Ron Patterson, who with his then-wife Phyllis founded the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in 1963, the traditions of the 16th Century Elizabethan England presented, has died. He was 80th

Patterson died on 15th January in Sausalito, California, where he was receiving palliative care at the home of a friend said that her son Kevin. He was in declining health for several years.

For the first festival, held in North Hollywood, said the couple colleagues improvisational actors, artisans and others that are mixed in their best approximation of the Elizabethan costumes and with visitors.

"He was a lover of the arts. He was a painter. He was an artist," Kevin Patterson said the father. "He married a woman, passion, and together a huge success because they had discovered similar interests."

Ronald J. Patterson was the second in Los Angeles in November 1930 and grew up in Studio City. The eldest son of three, he entered North Hollywood High School in 1949 and 1954 at UCLA, where he studied commercial art. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was in Memphis, Tennessee, where he met and married Phyllis Stimbert sent. The couple moved to Los Angeles, where Patterson began as an art director in an advertising firm, Hollywood.

In 1962, Phyllis left her job as a teacher and started a summer theater program for children who disguised her husband. The productions were based on historical periods and the Renaissance, they created a pantomime, minstrel show. It was so successful that the theater of a national organization called the couple to make publicly available.

Look for ways to play the scene, she saw a drawing of a car comedia surrounded by a small fair and started the first festival to present.

Two and a half years later, Ron Patterson left his job to help supervise the event.
