Miguel Acosta tried to run but he could not hide Brandon Rios, and it cost him his WBA title easily.
Rios has survived a difficult first couple laps to score in the 10th round technical knockout over Acosta remain undefeated and win its first championship Saturday night at the Palms.
"My dream has come true," said Rios, clutching his new price. "A little guy from Kansas. ... Who would have ever thought?"
A five-punch excitement at the beginning of the 10th Acosta sent down and out, as referee Joe Cortez did not bother to count, stopping the fight at the 1:14 mark. Acosta (28-4-2) suffered its first defeat in seven years, ending a 19-fight win streaks.
"I am very sad and disappointed because I really felt I would win this fight," said Acosta. "Rio is very strong, and I'm ready for it. But his power surprised me. "
Rios (27-0-1) fell by Acosta in the sixth and eighth rounds before finishing. But it was the first knockdown that did the most damage and has changed the face of wrestling.
"It hurts me to start with a good body shot in the third round, but I sucked at it," said Rios. "When I spilled the first time I knew he was ready."

On the undercard, undefeated Jesse Lee and Mike Magdaleno scored impressive TKO win the first round to stay. Magdaleno, a featherweight from Las Vegas, held at 02:12 Jamie Gutierrez improve 3-0. Lee, a former Notre Dame in mid-heavy, Pablo Gomez was twice in the first row raised 2:17 4-0.
Las Vegas' Anthony Lenk fell to 10-1, stopping Terry Buterbaugh fight with 18 seconds in the final round of their six-round super lightweight.
