NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York prosecutors on Thursday charged two unsolved murder along a murderer sentenced to death in California.
Rodney Alcala, 67, as a "Dating Game" the killer is known, has been accused of murdering two women in New York, both 23, whose death had been resolved since the 1970s.
The investigators started with a new look at the case last year, and the investigation Alcala, is in jail in California since 1980 for the murder of a young girl of 12 years and four women.
A professional photographer, Alcala appeared on TV game show "The Dating Game" in 1978. It is considered attracted his victims by offering to take their photos.
The killings took place in New York in 1971 and 1977 and were designated as "cold cases."
One victim was an officer aboard aircraft and the other the daughter of a nightclub owner.
The sealed indictment Thursday charged with two murders Alcala.
Manhattan District Attorney Vance declined to say precisely what has led investigators to suspect Alcala.
Prosecutors seek extradition Alcala in New York to face charges, said Vance.
